What are parking bays?
These are designated areas outside or near a disabled person’s home for parking.
The bay has the word “Disabled” printed on the road in-between the white lines.
Who are they for?
They are for use by any person who displays a disabled persons car badge (blue badge).
Who can apply for a bay?
In order to qualify for a disabled person’s parking bay you need to be able to fulfil all the criteria:Â
- Be the driver of the car, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
- Have a disabled persons car badge.
- Use a wheelchair on a permanent basis.
- Have no access to off-road or parking facilities.
What happens if I apply?
You will be asked to complete a declaration involving the previous questions.
The County Borough’s Engineer and Surveyor will need to see if the bay can be safely provided. This has to take into account traffic regulations when making a decision about the location of the parking bay.
Medical evidence will be required in order to assist our assessment in exceptional cases.
What happens if I am not happy with the decision?
There is no right of appeal against the decision.
