The Leader of °¬²æAƬ County Borough Council, Councillor Nigel Daniels has shared his condolences on the sad news of the death of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip on Friday 9 April 2021.
Councillor Daniels said:
‘I am deeply saddened at the passing of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip following many years of loyal service to the Country. On behalf of °¬²æAƬ County Borough Council, I send our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family at this difficult time.
He will be remembered for his committed service to this country, his patronage of hundreds of charities and of course, the inspirational Duke of Edinburgh awards that have encouraged and motivated so many young people over the years.
His loss will be felt deeply across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.’
In a display of mourning and respect, all of °¬²æAƬ Council flags have been lowered to half-mast. A minutes’ silence will also be observed before each Council Committee meeting this week.
In normal circumstances, books of condolence would be available for the public to sign in council buildings. Unfortunately, in order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions in place, and to reduce the risk of transmission, books of condolence will not be available in public buildings for people to sign in person.
However, a Book of Condolence is available online https://www.royal.uk/ for those who wish to pay their respects.
We respectfully ask members of the public not to lay flowers or other memorial items such as candles, messages and mementoes, at Council offices or public spaces in accordance with the wishes of the Palace and Government guidance.
