Invitation for Expressions of Interest from Third Sector Organisations
Recruitment of a ‘Race Equality Independent Oversight & Advisory Panel’ to support the work of the Criminal Justice in Wales ‘Race Equality Delivery Group’.
The Criminal Justice in Wales ‘Race Equality Delivery Group’ was recently established by all of the criminal justice partners in Wales. These include the police, prisons and probation, the Crown Prosecution Service, Courts and Tribunal Service and the Youth Justice Service. Welsh Government and Public Health Wales are also members. The Group’s aim is to work to improve outcomes and reduce racial disparity for Black Asian and Minority Ethnic people in the Criminal Justice System in Wales. The group will also work to improve internal awareness of race equality issues. The work will predominantly be undertaken through the implementation of the group’s Race Equality Delivery Plan.
In order to provide reassurance and oversight of the Group’s work, all partners have agreed to establish an independent panel to oversee its actions and ensure that sufficient progress is made against the Delivery Plan.
Establishing this Independent Panel is an important step in moving forward with improving race equality within the criminal justice system in Wales. It is intended to provide a critical eye from direct stakeholders about the work being undertaken and will work with Criminal Justice in Wales to help to address the systemic discrimination and disadvantages experienced by Black Asian and Minority Ethnic people in the criminal justice system.
It is important that the Independent Panel is made up of people with the appropriate personal attributes, experience, expertise, knowledge and understanding of race equality issues in criminal justice but are independent of the partners undertaking the work. This need for absolute independence and objectivity is vital, and so the Criminal Justice in Wales Race Equality Delivery Group is seeking to commission the services of a third sector partner to appoint the Independent Panel.
We are looking for Expressions of Interest from third sector partners to provide the required service to recruit all members of the panel, including its Chair.
