The Council was successful in securing a funding bid awarded by Welsh Government under the Warm °¬˛ćAƬs Arbed programme. This allowed for homes in Ebbw Vale, llanhilleth and Brynithel to benefit from energy efficiency technology.
Funding contributions were also secured from other partnership agencies to complete the project; Tai Calon Community Housing and Eco Company Obligation funds (Carbon savings).
As part of the scheme; the local community centre in Brynithel benefited from ÂŁ6,800 worth of solar panels installed to the building to improve the energy efficiency of the centre. This was delivered in a partnership approach, with the Greener Team from Melin °¬˛ćAƬs working with the centre. 250 homes received external wall insulation and 10 homes received new boilers.
Jim McIlwee, Deputy Leader for °¬˛ćAƬ County Borough Council said:
“This has been a fantastic scheme where the Council has been able to secure some funding to assist in making these properties more energy efficient in the area.
“The local community centre in Brynithel and a number of homes around the borough have benefited from the scheme. This will help their properties to become more energy efficient and in the long term have a positive effect on making properties comfortable, driving down energy bills and better for the environment.
“In total £3,123,774.47 was invested in this scheme with an estimated lifetime carbon saving of 5,779 tonnes.”
