‘Proud Councils’ brings together the majority of councils in South Wales in a visible and unified way, to support and promote equality for LGBTQ+ communities.
This year will see °¬²æAƬ join Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr, Cardiff, Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Bridgend to actively take part in the event.
On Saturday, 24th August ‘Proud Councils’ will be taking part in the Pride Cymru Parade through Cardiff city centre, which will see LGBTQ+ staff, supporters, councillors and associated community groups march together to visibly show each council's commitment and support of the LGBTQ+ community in Wales and around the world.
‘Proud Councils’ will also have a stall at Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend on the 24th and 25th August, talking with visitors to discuss how councils can improve upon service delivery, access and inclusion, and prevent discrimination for LGBTQ+ residents and employees, as well as signposting to services offered by councils and partners.
Councillor Mandy Moore, Equalities Champion at °¬²æAƬ Council says:
“We are committed to ensuring that members of the LGBTQ+ community here in °¬²æAƬ are treated equally and have the same opportunities as everyone else. We are delighted to be working as part of ‘Proud Councils’ in South Wales to have a presence at this important event to highlight the steadfast commitment our councils have to promoting respect and diversity in our communities. Welsh public services are working to deliver for everyone, regardless of race, sexuality, gender identity, age, disability or religion.
“We will also be proudly flying the LGBTQ+ flag outside the Civic Centre in Ebbw Vale this weekend.â€
